Brothers 4 Life gang members used pig Latin as their code

The trial of two senior Brothers 4 Life members accused of murder has heard a phone intercept where members of the gang communicate in pig Latin as a basic form of code.

Mumtaz and Farhad Qaumi are standing trial for allegedly organising the December 2013 fatal shooting of standover man Joseph Antoun at his Strathfield home.

It is alleged the Qaumi brothers, who were senior members of the Sydney gang and the leaders of the Brothers 4 Life Blacktown chapter, arranged for Mr Antoun, a 50-year-old standover man, to be killed in exchange for money to buy a food business.

A Brothers 4 Life member, known as Witness J for legal reasons, has testified that the Qaumi brothers told him to "move" a .38 revolver that had been hidden in bushland.

Witness J said he later received a call from Farhad Qaumi, who said Witness J's brother Witness K had been stopped by police with a weapon in his car.

The Supreme Court was played that tapped phone conversation in which the pair talked about someone being caught with "the un-gay in the ar-kay".

In an exchange with crown prosecutor Ken McKay, Witness J confirmed this was pig Latin for being "caught with the gun in the car".

At one point, Mumtaz Qaumi shouted at Witness J from the dock, calling him a "f***ing rat".

Witness J also testified that members of the Blacktown chapter of Brothers 4 Life were invited to a boat party that ended in a shooting, on a promise that supermodel Miranda Kerr would be there.

Witness J said mafia figure Pasquale Barbaro, who was shot dead in Sydney on Monday night, invited Farhad Qaumi to the boat party on New Years Day 2014.

He said Barbaro told Farhad Qaumi: "'It's a celebration for you. You're the main event,' he said. 'Miranda Kerr is going to be there'."

Witness J told Farhad Qaumi's defence barrister John Stratton SC he was suspicious of the invitation as Qaumi had only just met Barbaro.

The party ended with Farhad Qaumi being shot in the shoulder as he exited the boat in Rose Bay.

Witness J laughed as he confirmed to Mr Stratton that the supermodel had not been on the boat.
